Bishop Lamont’s Internet Marketing = WIN

So Bishop Lamont released his highly anticipated mixtape, street album, new album The Confessional early this week. Along with being a superb piece of music, the marketing behind it was something to behold. Bishop often claims he’s a “Geico Caveman” when talking about technology, but I don’t buy it. The marketing for this tape was just too slick.

In case you missed it, Bishop and his crew released a Youtube video confronting Dj Strong Thong about a leak/bootlegging of The Confessional. It’s received over 60,000 views as of this morning and is a perfect example of turning lemons into lemonade. This is also a great example of viral marketing. Judging by the ratings of shows like “Cops” and “Cheaters” people like to see individuals confront others. Bishop’s video utilized this concept and the results have been impressive.

Secondly on the Day of the release, Bishop had an online listening party for his fans through UStream.tv. Basically it was a live stream of the studio where Bishop recorded the mixtape, street album, new album with a chat room where fans could ask questions. It was a nice way to interact with fans and Bishop brought several of the New West’s “Who’s who” including G Malone. There were so many people watching the stream that Ustream.tv had a hard time keeping the feed alive. This kind of fan interaction is the future.

Bishop and his crew are consistently showing new ways of marketing themselves to great success. By offering free music, innovative ways of marketing that music, and keeping their movements in the forefront of fans minds, the Diocese crew is doing it, and doing it and doing it well.
