Detox Track Leaks?

So a track leaked yesterday claiming to be a demo from the long awaited Detox. Here’s the track and the story that went along with it:

Recently, I received some records submitted for Detox which were written by an artist by the name of Prophet. We didn’t end up keeping any of them but Dre liked his style of writing and the production so he wanted me to fly him and the producer WallStreet out.

Once they arrived everyone got acquainted and started working. WallStreet pulled up a sample and started crafting the drums as Prophet who funny enough is a reggae/hiphop artist started writing the rap. The chemistry in the room was amazing. Dre walked in and heard the track and the first thing he said was we need to replay the sample and we’ll have a buzz single for Detox.

Dre got on the boards and started to get more involved with the production. He started to EQ WallStreet’s drums making them sound 10 times bigger. He had the guitar and strings played over and the finish product of the track was CLASSIC Dre. Prophet continued to write the record and then laid his vocals to the record so Dre could learn the song.

I expect Dre to lay his vocals down in the next day or so. It will be extremely hard if not impossible to get the song because no one has access to the files once Dre records to it. For now, all I have is the version with Prophet’s vocals on it.

As great as the story sounds, I doubt the track is actually a Detox leak. Aftermath is like Fort Knox, nothings getting in or out unless Dre or somebody on his staff wants it to leak.

The part about this being a “Buzz Single” raises some red flags as well. Detox doesn’t need a buzz single. It’s been one of the world’s most anticipated albums since the day it was announced. The buzz is already at an all-time high and a buzz single would be silly in my opinion.

Another red flag is the track itself. It’s kind of tight, but it sounds like a throwaway from Dre’s post 2001 period. If this is what Dre has cooked up for Detox, the album shouldn’t be released. Perhaps its 8 years of anticipation, but this track isn’t revolutionary or even evolutionary. There are two potential conclusions listeners can draw from this track:

1.) IF the story is true, this track won’t be on Detox and Prophet and Wallstreet have just cut themselves off from working with Dre ever again.

OR

2. This is a deliberate marketing campaign that Phrophet and Wallstreet concocted to garner a buzz for themselves.

I’m going with conclusion two. It’s a very interesting strategy and it has gotten a good amount of buzz for Prophet and Wallstreet. I searched for a MySpace page for both artists, but didn’t find any. If it is a marketing strategy, they messed up a basic element because I’m good with google and didn’t find anything on them.
If anybody at Aftermath is reading this, you should take one thing away from this track: Put out Detox. People are making fake songs from the album and getting a huge amount of online buzz in the process. Think of the kind of attention a REAL Detox single will get.
