West Coast Mythbusters: Bishop Lamont Still Signed

Another day, another dollar wild internet rumor. Looks like somebody with too much time on their hands and not enough common sense decided that spreading a rumor about Bishop Lamont being dropped from Aftermath was a good idea. I’ve confirmed from multiple sources that Bishop Lamont is indeed still signed to Aftermath Records.

In other Bishop Lamont news, all you Euro’s out there should keep an eye out for Bishop in your neck of the woods. The CALTROiT WORLD TOUR kicked off Thursday and I’ve got the tour dates below.

Another leak from the Kush 2009 tape today. (In case you missed the first leak over Keep Their Heads Ringin’, get it here) This track is over D12’s Fight music and Ya Boy takes on a rock star persona. The Kush 2009 tape is looking to be another feather in Ya Boy’s cap. It’s supposed to feature Ya Boy rapping over all Dr Dre beats. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Bishop Lamont Dropped from Aftermath?

Rumors are floating around the web today that Bishop Lamont has been dropped from Aftermath Records. Note that these are simply rumors right now and I’ve sent a message to Bishop’s camp to try and get some sort of comment. If it’s true, its a tad strange as Bishop left for a European tour on Wednesday according to his MySpace. Bishop has been giving a series of interviews lately talking about how Interscope sent cease and desist letters to radio stations playing “Grow up” and sounding a bit angry. Treat this as a rumor right now, and we’ll keep you updated.

Statik Selektah has a new album dropping on October 21st called Stick 2 The Script. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve never really played much of Statik Selektah’s shit, but that changed with one track that leaked yesterday. The track is called Cali Nights and it features G Malone and Mista F.A.B. with Novel on the hook. I’m calling it right now, this is the best track of the month. It sounds like something right out of 96. The whole track is executed perfectly. Malone and Fab both drop amazing verses and Novel does an excellent job on the hook. This reminds me of some I Love the Dough/Sky’s the Limit on the production tip. Trust me, download this track. You won’t be dissapointed.

Ya Boy Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Just got word that Ya Boy was in a serious motorcycle accident and was hospitalized. Ya Boy sustained severe injuries to his arms, legs, and stomach is unable to walk at the current moment. Good news is that a full recovery is expected. Be sure to keep Ya Boy in your thoughts and prayers. There’s no official word out of the PMG camp on how fans can show support, but we recommend swooping by Ya Boy’s MySpace and picking up one his many tight mixtapes. Ice Cube: The Essentials (Remastered) Review

I’ve got a friend who never got into the whole rap thing. He’s kind of a chump, but he’s got a good heart. My buddy likes the emo shit and alt-rock. The only rap album he’s every purchased was Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em.

My friend recently had a birthday so I got him a copy of Ice Cube The Essentials (Remastered) to try and get him up to speed. I’ve been an Ice Cube fan for a long time. Cube has a huge catalog of amazing songs so I wince when people try and put out “Best Of” albums. To my surprise, Ice Cube The Essentials (Remastered) is a great little compilation.

My problem with most “Best of” albums is they focus too much on one part of an artist’s career. This isn’t the case with The Essentials. It’s got a good selection of great tracks from each point in Cube’s career. If you’re looking for a nice album to introduce somebody to Ice Cube, I’d recommend getting Ice Cube The Essentials (Remastered). The only problem now is my friend thinks he’s a super gangster, but hey I guess that’s better than having him weeping over a bitch while listening to emo.

Ya Boy - Shoebox Video

The video to Ya Boy’s Shoebox (produced by Infra Red) just dropped. The video was produced by Fredo Tovar and it’s a nice one. Ya Boy always puts out nice videos (See 100 Bars of Death to see what I’m talking about)and this one is no different. I enjoyed the mom scene the most but the whole video has its moments. Jay Rock - All My Life Trailer

So it seems the new popular thing to do is release a trailer for an upcoming video to create a buzz. I guess it’s a decent way to let established fans know about the upcoming video rather than just dropping it outta nowhere. One potential downfall I’ve noticed is the preview videos often include footage not included in the final poduct. Anyways, Jay Rock’s camp put out a video preview to the upcoming All My Life track and this video looks like it’s going to be real nice. It’s good to see the most popular rap artist in the world* show love to Jay Rock. Hopefully, Warner Bros throws some support behind the video considering it’s got two HUGE names associated with it.
